In the Wish list we invited you to let us know the type of Add-Ons you would like to see developed for IE. We won't be able to do them all but we'll surely give some a good bash ;)
You can now contact us by email for additional suggestions and request!
- How about a way to save/open multi-tab Internet Shortcuts; just like the multi-tab Internet Explorer 7 home page, but for other shortcuts. Alternatively, how about a way for IE7 to open several Internet Shortcuts inside a folder (or several highlighted ones) to several tabs.
- Please, please consider developing something similar to the Mozilla Flashblock plugin. It simply replaces the flash content with an blank area containing an icon, and when you click on it, it then loads and runs the flash. I'd donate for this capability.
- Brad: I'd love to see an "eyedropper" tool, as PhotoShop has. Something that would tell me the hex and rgb code of an on-screen color.
- Jer: Regular Expression checkbox next to [ ] Match case. It would be great to allow RegEx, even though this is a "quick" search, because RegEx works with wildcards (like *), and wildcards are faster to type than multiple word forms or numbers in a heap of different numbers. E.g., if you're looking for a number in the 190s on a page with the numbers 19 and 1900-1999 frequently occuring throughout, the RegEx 19[0-9] is faster to type than 19 [enter, enter, enter, enter...] and narrows your scope drastically. Please don't discount the power and elegance of even simple RegEx searches. :)
- Brant: Digital signatures on DLL and installer would help ensure authenticity of executable and reduce warnings of possibly untrusted code that Windows gives for unsigned executables.
- Brant: I would like an x64 version as well. The current IA32 version work in the 32-bit IE in Windows Vista x64, but it does not work in the 64-bit IE.
- Ren: Hi. As already noted, better session saver and download manager would be great. But I came here from google becouse I was looking for 'inline search'. But I meant Opera style, eg: typing 'g ieforge' to address bar makes google search for ieforge, with possibility to add another engines like wikipedia, ebay...
- Yato: Inline search is missing search history: session-wide would be enough, so user can repeat recent searches without retyping.
- Yato: Integration with IE7's Search Internet box: Prefill find box with term(s) from recent Google/MSN/... search. Usually user searches page for the term he googled for.
- From Alca: Please add an entry in the IE7 Page submenu called "Search with inline Search" so that we can access the Inline search bar by other means than Ctrl+F. (sometimes the keyboard is far and opening the bar with the mouse would be useful). I'm talking about the Page menu on the top-right of IE7window.
- From Alca: Please make a feature to remember the last 3 or 4 searches. Very handy if you search for the same term over and over.
- GoldCoaster: I would like a right click search tool. Just right click on a word in a web page and it opens a tab and searches google for it.
- Pawelsky: Greasemonkey-like scripting add-on. Currently existing Trixie na Turnabout are no longer supported and have some annoying bugs :(
- Provolino: I agree with Marcel, please add a session saver... also include the ability to restore previously closed tabs (maybe due an error), for example with a recent list of last 10 closed tabs to be able to reopen them with a click
- Provolino: I'd like a download manager add-on, maybe similar to the one included into firefox... I know there are several download managers available but they are all external programs... I want something included directly into IE because external programs often have problems to catch correctly all download links... this shouldn't happen with an internal add-on that completely replace standard download ie window :)
- Marcel: I would desperately want a Session Saver in IE7 which will be able to restore tabs when Windows crashed or something.
- An option to hijack the "Favorites" yellow star to have the favorite center opened PINNED by default (for now the user must pin it manually everytime he opens the favorite center as IE7 doesn't remember the previous pin status). Basically, clicking the yellow star would simulate Ctrl+Shift+I instead of the current Ctrl+I when this option is enabled. (this option featured in Inline Search would be totally wonderful too ^_^;)
- Something I don't think is possible in either IE or Firefox: dragging tabs from one window to another. I know that it is possible to reorder tabs in the same window by dragging and dropping to the left or right. But it doesn't seem like it is possible to pull a tab that opened in a new window (darn you, window-happy web developers) into the preferred window where all your other tabs are. There is no reason I should have to hold down the control key every time I click on a hyperlink. (I will also second the suggestion of the author below, requesting the ability to duplicate the current tab.)
- I'd like more control over tabs and the tab bar, something like the Firefox extension Tab Mix Plus. The most important function being the ability to duplicate the current tab. Generally I'd like to control what happens when I left-click, right-click, middle-click, and double-click on tabs and the tab bar.
- How about word highlighting a la google toolbar, ie. i type in multiple words and each word is treated independently (ie. not a phrase) and highlighted in different color
- Opera like bookmark access (filtering) etc.
- Go Up button like in maxthon.
- I'd almost give anything for a comparable (even compatible) tool in IE to the AdBlock extension in Firefox. I am so sick of my bandwidth being consumed by ad's. Just look at the ratio of bytes/bit on so many sites these days.....please...please.www.ie7pro.com
- Perhaps not as potentially complex as an 'Adblock' for IE, but 'active content control' on a per site basis would be very nice, and that remembers the user's choice so that future visits will still block the chosen content even after clearing the cache. I suppose I'm at least asking for 'Flashblock' for IE, and I know that's not as simple as it is with Firefox for example. But I also know that one of the alternative IE based browsers out there has something like this. Netscape also includes per site content filtering.
- How about mouse gestures.... Gestures already available with this plugin: http://www.ysgyfarnog.co.uk/utilities/mousegestures/
- How about 64-bit support.
- Image Toolbar.
- Minimize To Tray. [ Yitzchok adds: make that "Close to Tray" like Maxthon can do; it's more intuitive, to me at least ]
- Paste and Go.
- Google has a limited auto complete for online form filling. If you could produce a clean, one button link which does the same without having to have the Google toolbar it would really speed up my work.
- Chris: Second that! A formfiller that isn't a stand alone application but rather a add-on would be absolutely great.
- Proxy Switcher like SwitchProxy Tool for FireFox. ie7pro.com? or http://www.enhanceie.com/ietoys/proxypick.asp
- I would love it if there was a button to activate a feature like the MSN toolbar's highlight viewer, it's a small window containing a snapshot of the page, very handy.
- An equivalent to the Web Developer extension for Firefox. Most importantly - live CSS editing.
- Hotkey CTRL-F toggles the Toolbar (CTRL-F to view and also hide the search bar)
- Hotkey to toggle Highlightning
- NoScript like plugin
- Sessions (save tabs and windows on shutdown and restore them on restart)
- Dont add every option under the sun and get the app all bloated and slow. keep it lean and mean!
- Allow F3 to open search
- Ctrl+F switch on Infinite Search, then another Ctrl+F will allow to switch off the Infinite Search.
- Ctrl+A can switch on "Highlight all" function.
- Similar function to Opera Notes
- I want to have Ad Blocker like Ad Block in Firefox and Proxy Switcher like SwitchProxy for Firefox. Those are the reasons why I use firefox.
- buttons and/or menu options to add/remove a site to/from "Trusted Sites" -- could disable scripting normally, then add a site to TS to enable scripting on it until we remove it from the TS list ...
- FireBug alike inspect, debug and tracing tool will be very usefull. Perfect for webdevelopers to make less buggy pages.
- When I select (highlight) text on a web page, then click print, the print dialog box should automatically activate the "Print Selection" option. Why would IE think I want the whole page printed when I've gone to all the trouble to highlight a portion of the page?
- Add Bookmark Here for Firefox is an extension that adds an ' Add Bookmark Here' option in each bookmark folder so that as you look through your bookmarks, you can add a bookmark for the open page to that folder. This is quite nice as it makes the action/clicking required to bookmark a page identical to the action needed to retrieve a bookmark. Something like the Add Bookmark Here extension for IE7 would be terrific.
- After installing inline search V1.4 in IE6/XP SP2, the pointers for the Google and McAfee SiteAdvisor toolbars are switched. Disabling one using View\Toolbars disables the wrong toolbar.
- An option in InlineSearch to keep the toolbar opened, and not closed with every new instance of IE.
- View source chart like what's avaiable for Firefox https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/655
- When the default IE7 find box is opened it automatically copies the text from the search internet box. That’s something Inline Search could use because: ‘Usually user searches page for the term he googled for’.
